Kitchener Indoor Recreation Complex

Kitchener Indoor Recreation Complex

We are pleased to share our ongoing work with the City of Kitchener on the new Kitchener Indoor Recreation Complex (KIRC) at RBJ Schlegel Park. This will mark the city’s first net-zero carbon building and will stand as one of Canada’s most sustainable recreation facilities. Equipped with geothermal heating and cooling systems, along with an array of solar panels, KIRC is projected to reduce carbon emissions by 22 tonnes annually, resulting in approximately $100,000 in utility savings for the city each year.

KIRC will serve as a community hub, offering amenities that cater to a diverse range of interests. These include a FIFA-sized indoor field, which can be subdivided into four smaller fields for various sports activities; an indoor aquatics centre featuring comfortable viewing areas and pools for recreational and competitive use; an indoor walking track positioned above the indoor field; an indoor cricket batting cage; and multipurpose rooms designed for community events, private parties, and other rental opportunities. Furthermore, KIRC has allocated space for a gymnasium to be added in the future.

We’re excited to see this project move along and can’t wait to share more updates with you soon! We extend our greatest thanks to our Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) partners and team (City of Kitchener , Multiplex, MTE Consultants , AECOM, SpruceLab Inc. , DEI, Pratus, Sutherland Schultz, Guild Electric , M&G, and Austin Carroll Pool Construction ) for being an integral piece in KIRC’s progression.
