Peterborough Animal Care Centre
Peterborough, Ontario
The 24,450 sq.ft. Peterborough Animal Care Centre is one of Canada’s most advanced animal care facilities. The building incorporates three functions under one roof: the Peterborough Humane Society, the Ontario SPCA Provincial Rehabilitation Facility, and a Regional Spay/Neuter Clinic. The Dog Rehabilitation Facility will bring dogs from across the province to Peterborough for behavioural and physical rehabilitation using the building’s shared assessment rooms, hydro-treadmill and hydrotherapy pool.
This facility has been designed to meet the Canadian Standards of Care in Animal Shelters, with larger animal housing spaces grouped into smaller pods for better noise and infection control and a medical-grade mechanical system. Careful consideration has also been given to the durability of finishes, which must be able to handle chewing, scratching and animal wastes.
