This project renovated all of the production spaces in the existing Festival Theatre as well as adding 48,000 sq. ft. of new production and administration space. The challenge was to provide a facility of this size, while maintaining the existing scale and ambience of this popular venue and its historic setting.

Shaw Festival

A "L" shaped reflecting pond outlines the building in the middle of a courtyard. A small foundation is located in the top right corner of the pond.

Exterior lights illuminate the reflecting pond that wraps around exterior of building. Interior lights show a communal space through floor to ceiling windows.

The interior program of the 158,000 sq. ft. facility consists of four major components: a 900-seat NHL-sized twin ice pad facility, a pool complex including an eight-lane competition pool, a beach walk-in leisure pool plus a separate therapy pool, a double gymnasium and community service spaces.

Bradford Leisure Centre

The original intent of the project was to renovate a bank into a small studio theatre with appropriate support space. However, it was quickly found that the original building was not structurally sound and the project developed into a completely new intimate performing arts centre.
